The way I’m wired means I write with a host of different people in mind. Sometimes I wonder how people in the US and UK can be so bland when it comes to representing the world we live in – on TV, film and print – and pass-off something so whitewashed as normal. I can count on my hand the amount of female leads and even more worrying leads or even secondary casts with men and women of colour on film and TV.
the TELEVISED…
I hate that I noticed this but it’s also my job, I’m glad to point it out because I can’t believe that Jennifer, Christine and Ro are going to be the only stories out of almost 20 films to focus on a woman of colour.
*this goes beyond stereotypical comedies or cop films – and since the 90s, even they are far and few in-between.
