Be Excellent To Each another.
It’s from the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. I know, I know – my whole life is one big reference to a backlog of movies. The point is it’s a quote – ironically enough a line spoken by the late and notoriously cynical stand-up comedian George Carlin – that is just as important now as it was then.
When I was 4 years old and I saw that movie, I could recite it – easy. As I got older and watching Keanu Reeves became a staple in my
boy movie curious years, I understood it enough to say it back to my friends and people I crossed. Now its a line that makes my heart heart, because:
A) It reminds me of my childhood and how I will never get it back
B) I know – somewhere between that playful, idealistic child and the more confident and open adult I am now – this quote and it’s meaning eluded me completely.
C) it’s still so true!
Now more than ever there is a need to Be Excellent to everyone, its so easy to be cruel, especially online where we’re so connected yet even further removed from reality. It’s so easy, in light of the crap we put on ourselves in today’s world, I wouldn’t wish ill on anyone who did me wrong. Its just not worth it any more. So my mantra is to be excellent to me, you and everyone I know. It can only bring us good karma.
…and party on dudes.
