This. Just this.
Long live the …short-lived show Freaks and Geeks and Nick’s (Jason Segel) endearing love for the rock and roll band RUSH.
I had this great song ‘Spirit of the Radio’ by RUSH on loop last year, and during a workout in the gym today it popped up on my playlist. Such a tune it got me thinking about this particular scene from Freaks and Geeks, so I decided to share.
Anyone who is slightly imaginative or who has played Guitar Hero has imagined themselves as a rock star. Nick from Freaks and Geeks is an aspiring drummer; in the clip the 18-year-old Segel/Nick is taking on RUSH drummer, Neil Peart’s role – in his basement…with dry ice.
This has to be on of the best in a lot of brilliant scenes in the TV show penned by Judd Apatow back in the early 2000. Segel later went on to continue his lament for the Canadian band in the movie I Love you, Man, with Paul Rudd. Alas, Freaks and Geeks was a show ahead of its time and low on viewership. Unlike the forever doomed to be cancelled show Community, Freaks and Geeks didn’t have the power of viewer petitions trending on a social network, and it was unable to come back after one season.
Seriously, who has dry ice lying around?
